VOCABULARY DASAR TENTANG COLOR

One of the important things in learning English is mastering basic vocabularies. One can not learn English if he or she has no knowledge about vocabulary in English. Vocabularies have an important role in English learning. The basic vocabularies should be mastered before learning English for further. Indonesia starts English at elementary school. So The teaching learning process is emphasis on the basic vocabularies. Students must know the vocabularies found in everyday’s conversation. Things around, and of course about himself or herself and family.English at Elementary school doesn’t focus on grammar. The grammar has  a little portion in elementarys school. English at elemetary school focucuses on the introduction of English. It’ll be very late for Indonesian learners to start studying English from secondary school.

There are many basic vocabularies taught at elementary school in Indonesia. For example: students learn about greeting and parting, numbers, alphabet, animal, plants, color,  part of the body, things in the school bag, things in the classroom, things at home, family and so on. Those are the basic vocabularies that Elementary students must know before learning further. The vocabularies learning at elementary school are identical with pictures because the elementary school students likes pictures, or colorful pictures very much. There many ways to attract students’ interest in English vocabularies. One of them is by giving the colorful pictures represent the vocabularies being learned.

On this ocassion, I would like to discuss about the color vocabularies. There are many color we should know. Here are kinds of color:

ENGLISH	INDONESIAN
Red	Merah
Blue	Biru
Green	Hijau
Yellow	Kuning
White	Putih
Black	Hitam
Brown	Coklat
Purple	Ungu
Grey	Abu-abu
Orange	oren

Learning color for Elementary school is more efective using English songs or Englih game method. There many songs about color we can download from the internet. another way to master color vocabularies is through coloring pictures. Elementary students really likes to color certain pictures. Teacher can test the students’ mastery about color through coloring. Teacher can give a non color picture and she/she write the color on the part of the picture. The students are asked for coloring the parts of the pictures. When the students can color correctly, theyare considered to master the color vocabs.
